Our story is simple. It is a story of vision, faith, hard work, and the pure blessings of Mother Nature. In 1973, Lon Johnson founded Trout Lake Farm in this beautiful fertile valley at the foot of Mt. Adams. It was just at the beginning of the “go-natural” craze and Lon had the vision to begin to produce high quality, organic, culinary and medicinal herbs for an exploding health conscious generation. He had the faith and commitment to grow herbs through earth-friendly sustainable farm production methods. The pure waters of the glacial fed White Salmon River, temperate climate, rich soils and isolation from pollution made the Trout Lake Valley ideal for the cultivation of a variety of herb species. As business grew, Lon expanded the operation to Eastern Washington with a 2nd milling facility and additional farmable acreage.
After many years of producing high quality botanicals, our little herb farm in the Trout Lake Valley has gone through tremendous transformation and growth. In 1998 Trout Lake Farm was purchased by Amway/Nutrilite. Our new partnership enabled Trout Lake Farm to modernize its farm production facilities, expand its acreage, (our Columbia River Basin Farm near Ephrata, Wash., now has over 600 acres of land in cultivation) and have access to a proven successful leadership community. Since its beginnings and through its changes, Trout Lake Farm has emerged as a respected leader in the Global Organic Herb industry.
What remains at our core from those humble beginnings is the same essential spirit that has always been at the heart of Trout Lake Farm. A vision of earth friendly sustainable farming, faith in the integrity of organic, and the joyful spirit that comes from hard work with good people, a healthy environment, and producing botanical products that improve the quality of people’s lives.
